3 Ways to Convert Your Movie Collection From VHS

by Clesha on March 4, 2009

Intro to the project

My father is a huge movie buff. It’s one of the things he enjoys on his downtime. Over the years, my father has amassed a very impressive movie collection of 1500+ VHS movies spanning across all genres.

Within his collection is a sizeable classic movie collection. Some are limited edition, some are probably hard to find. So, my goal was to transfer them to a more current medium, since they’d been sitting for so long.  The goal was also to find a way to do it that wouldn’t bankrupt me by the time the project was finished.

Why convert them?

About three years ago, we talked about his collection and reached the conclusion that the tapes would eventually deteriorate and he would begin to lose his movies. We brainstormed and come up with the idea of converting the VHS tapes to DVD.

Over the next few posts, I will share with you the 3 ways I am trying to complete this project and my outcomes.

Keep in mind that he owns all of the tapes and we’re trying to preserve his investment.

Getting Started

Before I could start this new project, I had to figure out the best way to convert the movies. Once I figured that out, I would need buy supplies and equipment. Oh, and I would need a system. Systems are always good.

So, let’s head to the first solution I found for this project.
