Grounding Cedarwood Essential Oil

Don’t you love the cool breeze of fall and the beauty of nature when autumn rolls in? I do, it’s one of my favorite seasons. It helps me to begin the process of slowing down from the fast pace of summer so I can take in everything around me. It’s also when I pull out my warm and earthy essential oils that compliment the season. One of those oils is Cedarwood.

Used since the time of antiquity, the wood of the cedar tree is considered both historical and sacred. The deep roots of this mighty tree makes it a wonderfully grounding essential oil to use when you’re feeling scattered and unfocused.

Cedarwood essential oil has a long-lasting, sweet and warm balsamic aroma, and can range from yellow to amber in color. Known for it’s antifungal, antiseptic, astringent and expectorant therapeutic qualities, cedarwood essential oil is a good choice when addressing congestion, fungal infections and acne.

As you may know, there is a direct connection between mind, body and spirit. When one it out of alignment, the other areas are affected. So, in addition to being excellent for self-care, Cedarwood essential oil can also play an important role when tending to your spiritual and emotional health. Here are some of the ways you can use Cedarwood essential to make the connection.

Cedarwood Essential Oil + Spiritual Care

Let’s start with caring for your spirit. It’s one area that gets the least amount of attention as we bulldoze our way through life. Caring for your soul helps you navigate through challenges that will crop up because, well, life happens. And, when it happens it can sometimes throw us for a loop, pulling your spirit out of whack. That disorienting feeling will trickles into your mind which can manifest in your body.

In those times of feeling pulled in a million directions, cedarwood essential oil can help keep you focused and grounded. It encourages clarity in times of uncertainty.

In addition, it helps with connection. Connection to your spirit which in turn, creates space to connect to the Divine. During times of spiritual confusion and disconnection, be still and use cedarwood to tap into what is already imparted in your spirit.

Another way you can use cedarwood essential oil is to enhance your sacred space. It clears negativity from the spaces where you live and love. Diffuse cedarwood essential oil during times of prayer, mediation or when your space need a spiritual cleansing.

Cedarwood Essential Oil + Emotional Care

When you properly care for your spirit, your mind will come along for the ride. However, just as negative energy can inhabit a physical space, it can also take up residence in your mind. When this happens, it can govern the way you think and act. Ever have negative, self-defeating conversation with yourself? Those are your negative thoughts in action.

Fortunately, cedarwood will also assist in the clearing of negative and stagnant thoughts.  As you work to shift how you think and feel about you, cedarwood will accompany you on the journey. Giving you the strength to face those parts of your story that contribute to the negative thoughts and negative ways of being. It provides a boost to your self-confidence as you make changes that will free you from the negative allowing you to embrace the positive.

Cedarwood Essential Oil + Self-care

Finally, cedarwood is a great addition to for self-care regime. As I stated earlier, this essential oil has many therapeutic properties that are beneficial when caring for your body. It stimulates, encourages the movement of congestion and provides relieve from skin and fungal infections (think acne).

These are just the tip of the aromatic iceberg when it comes to this essential oil. And, as with all essential oil, you want to use cedarwood with care. Although it’s a wonderful tool when caring for you skin, you never want to apply it straight out of the bottle and on to your skin (called using it neat). You want to b sure to dilute it in a base oil such as sweet almond, grapeseed or sunflower.

This essential oil is also has a contra-indicator for those pregnant or breast feeding so avoid using during those times. But, if you are neither pregnant nor breast feeding, have fun discovering how cedarwood essential oil can help you care for your spirit + mind + body.
