2009 is in full effect and I am rolling right along with it. As I did last New Year’s Eve, on December 31, 2008 I prayed, thanked God for my blessings seen and unseen, and made no New Year resolutions. I didn’t make a promise to myself to do something, make something, go somewhere and not follow through. We’ve all been there, done that.
One thing I did differently at the start of this year was to read more inspirational blogs. Going through my RSS feeds, I saw posts about a Word of the Year on Christine Kane’s blog. I read through the posts and saw how other people were setting intention for their year based on a word. Interesting…
When Christine put out a new post on January 1 with a call to create your year now I decided to give it a try. Reading through the post I kept thinking about how I wanted so much around and within me to change. Before I got to the steps I needed to follow to choose my word, my mind was already made up. My word of the year was Change. To be fair to myself, I followed the 5 steps needed to discover what word would help me create my year of living on purpose.
I skipped through the list happily rolling my word around in my head. "I want this to change. I want that to change. Yep, change is my word." Nothing in the list hit me until I got to the word Willingness. It was as if the word was in bold with a larger font than the rest of the list. Hmm…I guess this is my real word to create the year and life I wanted. The next word on the list? Change. It seemed so much smaller than the word above it.
I thought about it a moment and realized that in order for things to change in my life, I have to be willing to do the work. I want my weight to change. I need to be willing to exercise and change my relationship with food (I’m not the super skinny chick I used to be). I want financial abundance. I have to be willing to tighten the reigns on spending and stop mentally living in lack. I have to be willing to be the changes I want to see in my life.
I’m not sure of the depth this word has for me, but I’m looking forward to finding out this year.
Do you have a word of for your year? Let me know about it in the comments below.
