10 Essential Oils for Summer

Summer is officially here and we’re slowly coming out of quarantine. Right now, we are in the “yellow” phase of reopening PA with a projected full reopening of the city sometime in July. But, I already see and hear people shifting to summertime mode after being shut up indoors for so long.

Here are 10 essential oils to help invite in the joy of summer no matter where you are headed or what activities you will take part in this summer.

  • Chamomile, German – soothes; anti-inflammatory & calming
  • Citronella – repels mosquitoes
  • Eucalyptus – encourages balance; great for allergy relief; antiviral & decongestant; use with care if you have asthma
  • Geranium – encourages regeneration; skin soother; astringent & antidepressant
  • Grapefruit* – encourages spontaneity; antiseptic & restorative; caution: photosensitive
  • Lavender – encourages being present; anti-inflammatory & anti-infectious
  • Lemongrass* – uplifting; antiseptic & calming; caution: photosensitive
  • Sweet Orange* – encourages joy; antidepressant & stimulating; caution: photosensitive
  • Peppermint – encourages vibrancy; antiviral & anti-infectious
  • Rosemary – encourages clarity; stimulant & decongestant; caution: avoid use during pregnancy

* These essential oils are known to be photosensitive and should be used with care. If applying to the skin do not go out into direct sunlight for at least 18 hours to reduce the chance of your skin being irritated, damaged, or burned.

There are many ways to use these essential oils during the hot summer months. Here a few to get you started:

  • inhalation – use in an inhaler stick or add a few drops to a facial tissue for direct inhalation
  • diffuser – add a few drops to a diffuser to encourage calm after a jam-packed day
  • mister – soothe and rejuvenate the skin after being in the sun
  • soothing balms – add to a cream or aloe to help soothe damaged skin or insect bites

Sun & Done Blend – use after a long day out in the sun. This blend will help soothe your sun-soaked skin. What you’ll need:

Combine all ingredients and add to the 2 oz. bottle or jar. Apply to skin when needed.

Summer Glow Up! Blend – use this blend to encourage and invite joy into your life. What you’ll need:

Add this uplifting blend to your diffuser, or add to cotton ball and place in your car for a little joy on the go.

Namaste Blend – this is blend that will assist with winding down or just relaxing. What you’ll need:

Add this blend to your diffuser, inhaler stick or a bath.
