Finding Your Secret Place
Do you have a secret place where you can go and exhale? Great if you do, but if you don’t, you need to find one…pronto. Here is how you can find your secret place.
Life can get busy
We all have those moments when we simply need to get away and be alone, without having to listen to another person, fill another request or think about another solution to yet another problem. In these moments, it’s important to find a quiet place to pull yourself back together so you can exhale, relax and listen. You can do this anywhere and it doesn’t require a lot of time.
Exhale, Relax & Listen
The first thing you want to do is find a place where you can be alone. This can be a small room tucked away, a table in an out of the way area at work or even your car. You simply want to make sure that it’s a place where you won’t be disturbed.
Now that you have found your secret place, breathe. It sounds silly but when we become overwhelmed, stressed or tired, our breathing becomes shallow or we tend to hold our breath. Take a deep breath and exhale.
I’m a person who can become distracted by things around me so I close my eyes when I do this. It also helps me to reconnect to myself and really shut out the chaos around me, even if only for a moment.
Relax your mind and body as you continue to take long slow breaths. Focus on your breathing as you allow the tension to release with every exhale.
Listen to what your body is saying and become intentional about addressing what you feel. Emotional stresses can turn into physical issues if they stay unchecked for too long.
Your secret place can be your safe haven against the storms of life. It offers you a space of peace that allows you to reconnect, slow down your thoughts and be present in the moment.
