How Are You Greeting Thanks?
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
Mark 9:23-24 (NKJ)
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
Let me ask you a hypothetical question. If you just completed this great thing and someone came up to you and began to thank you for doing it and sharing how it touched them, how would you respond? Would you respond with a smile, knowing that what God put in you has found it’s way to those who need it or would you instantly begin to lament about everything that went wrong, didn’t go right and your shortcomings? I’ll be honest, more often than not, my response is the later. And, that has to stop.
Stop Greeting Thanks & Blessings With Unbelief & Doubt
When you walk in the purpose that is given to you by God, you no longer have to focus on where you fall short. As a matter of fact, I would go a step further and say that it is unacceptable. This dishonors God and the gift He has placed in your hands. Once you decide to take those steps into your purpose, you begin to step out of the old you that, in your mind, could never get it right. You are shredding your old ways of thinking and your old ways doing. You are, literally walking into the person that God created. And, as you take those steps, your walk will become different.
You know longer need to think about what went wrong, what you didn’t do right or whether you came across as someone who knows what they’re saying. God already qualified you when He called you into being. You merely confirmed it when you chose to take the first step into your purpose. You don’t have to feel inferior, or that your imperfection will diminish anything that God has put inside of you since His light can never be extinguished. It will always shine through even in the darkest places.
Thanks, but…
This recently happen to me and I was immediately admonished to the point of silence. I gave an event that went really well and the only thing I could think of was all the things I didn’t say and whether the scripture I used was the correct one. The next day I received a phone call from an attendee thanking me for the Word and the event. I quickly began to rattle off what I felt could have been better and how I had to get this right for God. I mean, here it is someone is telling me that what God had for her at that meeting was received and my focus was where? On my shortcomings and imperfections! How arrogant and dishonest of me!
Finally, the Holy Spirit said enough and I was not only convicted by the Holy Spirit, but by the caller as well! At the same time! <laughing> Can you imagine that? I could do nothing except shut my mouth and listen. I will tell you it was not a fun feeling, but it was necessary and I received the message loud and clear.
Not me, but You
As unbelievable as it may sound, it was also a freeing moment for me. It was in that moment that I admitted to myself that I still felt unworthy and unqualified to do what God is calling me to do. I was still operating in the ME that I was trying to create.
From that perspective, I was right. I was unworthy, unqualified and I would never be able to bring forth God’s purpose for my life. Because I am not in control, God is. It is only with Him that I am worthy, qualified and will manifest what He has placed within me. It is with Him that I am made perfect. Even those things that I think don’t go as planned will be met with praise and honor to Him.
So, I say to you, stop greeting thanks and blessings with your doubt and unbelief. Allow your old self to be stripped away as He continues to shine through you with all of His perfection.
Prayer
Lord, I come before you a work in progress. I know that my foundation is being shored up as You work to reconstruct me. I ask that you give me the courage to walk in the steps that you have placed before me feet. That with each step I am healed mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. For I know that with each step I am releasing all that is no longer of use to You. Help me to bring forth Your purpose, in-spite of my doubt and unbelief, knowing that with each step I become perfect through You and all other things will fall away. Lord, I thank you for choosing me for Yourself and know that if you called me, You qualified me and all that is left is for me to get out of Your way. Lord, I place my trust in You and eagerly watch to see you manifest Your purpose through me.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
